WASHINGTON – The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s (CBCF) Haitian Relief Fund will provide three humanitarian organizations with a combined donation of $100,000 for the relief and rebuilding work they are doing in Haiti. The presentation is from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m., on July 15 at the Embassy of Haiti, 2311 Massachusetts Avenue, NW.
Partners In Health will receive $50,000 for their efforts and CARE USA and the American Red Cross will each receive $25,000 for their work since the devastating earthquake of January 12. “We are pleased to support the work of the three groups as they are making a daily difference in the lives of so many Haitians and their families,” said Elsie L. Scott, president and chief executive officer for CBCF. “PIH has been involved for the past 20 years in providing medical care to Haitians. CARE USA is known for its work to improve basic education and expand economic opportunity and the American Red Cross is untouched as the turn-to, trusted source for disaster relief,” she said.
CBCF, a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization whose mission is to advance the global black community by developing leaders, informing policy and educating the public, will continue to encourage individuals and organizations to contribute to the Haiti.
“At the half year mark, it is important to understand that there are no quick fixes for an area that was absolutely destroyed,” said Rep. Donald M. Payne of New Jersey and CBCF board chair. “While we know that the spirit of the Haitian people is dominant and resilient, we also know that there must be a real commitment of time, effort and funds to rebuild the community. CBCF’s Haitian Relief Fund will match donations up to $250,000. We will have recognition, prayers and donations for all Haitians during our Annual Prayer Breakfast on September 18 which is a part of CBCF’s Annual Legislative Conference. We will not forget our friends in Haiti.” The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Inc., established in 1976, is a non-partisan, non-profit, public policy, research and educational institute intended to broaden and elevate the influence of African Americans in the political, legislative and public policy arenas. |
