What is the ALC?
The letters ALC represent the words, Annual Legislative Conference. The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation presents the Annual Legislative Conference each year, typically in September, in Washington, DC. The major components of the ALC are the Issue Forums and Braintrusts that are convened by the members of the Congressional Black Caucus. Other major activities include the National Town Hall Meeting, the Emerging Leaders Action Forums, the Annual Prayer Breakfast and the Annual Awards Dinner. A number of fundraising events, concerts and networking receptions are also scheduled during the time of the ALC. The objective of the Annual Legislative Conference is to educate individuals on pressing legislative and policy issues of critical concern to the African American community. The funds that are raised during ALC help to fund the educational programs, scholarships and research initiatives sponsored by the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation.

What are Issue Forums and Braintrusts?
An Issue Forum is a 2 to 3 hour discussion on a particular topic, while Braintrusts are continuing dialogues on broader issue areas. Braintrusts are typically 3 to 6 hour discussions during the ALC and may convene during other times of the year as well.

How many attendees participate in the conference?
The Annual Legislative Conference is one of the nation's largest gathering of African Americans. Twenty- to thirty-thousand individuals from across the nation and the world convene in Washington, DC and are joined by hundreds of corporations, organizations, and city and state governments who register for the conference as well

What other events are happening in Washington, DC during the ALC?

The Annual Legislative Conference is the primary focus during September 26 - 29, 2007. In addition to the official ALC Events and receptions honoring the Congressional Black Caucus members, there are numerous unofficial events that occur. The CBCF does not receive information about these events nor are they endorsed by the CBCF.

What are the recommended hotels?
The Washington Renaissance is the host property for the Annual Legislative Conference. The CBCF has a rooming block with this property that features a negotiated rate. The Hyatt regency, the Grand Hyatt and the Marriott Metro are the official participating properties .

Do I have to be registered in order to purchase tickets for ticketed events?
No!

Is an official badge required for all ALC events?
You must have an official badge to enter all ALC activities taking place at the New Washington Convention Center. There is an exception for the ticketed events such as the Prayer Breakfast, Awards Dinner and CBC Spouses Fashion Show and Concert - your ticket will allow you to gain entrance.
