CBC Spouses Thanks Safeway for Its Tremendous Impact on Our Community

During the 37th Annual Legislative Conference, Safeway partnered with the CBC Spouses during the 2007 Community Breakfast and Health Fair held at So Others Might Eat (SOME) in Northwest Washington, D.C. Safeway’s commitment included providing food for this year’s Community Breakfast and Health Fair, a prostate vehicle for health screenings, aprons for SOME to use while serving meals and quarterly donations of food made to the shelter throughout the year. We thank Safeway for its extreme commitment in the development of our community!

Donna M. Christensen of the Virgin Islands; Leslie Meek, immediate past chairwoman, CBC Spouses and wife of Rep. Kendrick B. Meek of Florida; Rev. John Adams, SOME president, and Ralph DeChabert, former Safeway Chief Diversity Officer.

Each year during the CBCF Annual Legislative Conference, the CBC Spouses and Congressional Black Caucus members serve breakfast to and provide a whole host of volunteer services to over 400 clients of a Washington, DC Shelter. The Spouses work with corporate partners who contribute in-kind, monetary and service donations to be used towards the betterment of those whom the shelter serves. Additionally, the Spouses work with community organizations who provide screening and resources for a health fair where the clients receive free services such as dental screenings, prostate testing, podiatry exams and overall health screenings. This grassroots community event gives the CBC members and their Spouses the opportunity to meet the clients and speak with them on a personal level.
