WASHINGTON – The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation will present an economic empowerment forum aimed at bridging the wealth gap between African Americans and others at a free one-day conference, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., April 19, at the New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark.

U.S. Rep. Donald M. Payne (D-N.J.) and Cheryl Broussard, best-selling author and finance contributor to Essence magazine, will be among the several experts presenting at the forum.

Titled “Taking Control of Your Financial Destiny,” the event is part of a national series of financial forums sponsored by CBCF and Citi. Topics include information on managing debt in today’s economy, pre- and post-purchase information for home ownership and laying the foundation for financial success, all for creating economic empowerment and building personal wealth.

“The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation has worked hard over the years to close the economic gaps between the success of African Americans and other Americans,” said Elsie L. Scott, Ph. D., the Foundation’s president and chief executive officer. “This forum is designed not only to bring these and other financial matters to the forefront with expert advice and solutions, but also to provide applicable information that will benefit you in the days ahead.”

The workshop will also feature representatives from Newark-area financial organizations.

“We hope this forum will help all attendees take the next step in controlling their financial destiny and we welcome the opportunity to partner with them as they embark upon this most important journey,” said Eric V. Eve, senior vice president for global community relations at Citi and a member of the Foundation’s board of directors.
