PRUDENTIAL PROVIDES $100,000 DONATION TO CONGRESSIONAL BLACK CAUCUS FOUNDATION SUMMER INTERN PROGRAM

WASHINGTON – Prudential Financial Inc. [NYSE:PRU] today provided a $100,000 donation to the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation to support the participation of 10 college students in the Foundation’s 2007 summer congressional internship program.

Sharon Taylor, senior vice president and head of corporate human resources at Prudential, presented the donation to U.S. Rep. Kendrick B. Meek (D-Fla.), the Foundation’s chairman, and Elsie Scott, Ph.D., its president and chief executive officer, at the organization’s quarterly board of directors meeting.

“The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s Congressional Internship Program provides a superb opportunity for high-achieving college students to learn the ins and outs of how the legislative branch of our government operates on a day-to-day basis,” Taylor said. “We are proud to partner with the CBCF in this commendable program.”

The Foundation will select the interns from various geographical areas where Prudential has a strong business presence. They will be assigned from late May through late July to the offices of members of Congress who oversee committees that affect the financial services industry.

Established in 1986, the Congressional Internship Program answered the call to help diversify our democracy by increasing the pool of talented public servants. The intensive nine-week program provides college undergraduates with a behind-the-scenes look into the democratic process. Through experiential learning in the office of a Congressional Black Caucus Member, the internship prepares the interns to be decision makers in the policy making process.

“CBCF is grateful for Prudential’s support,” Dr. Scott said. “Its contribution will be added to the funding received from other generous corporate sponsors to help improve the quality of the program and allow the Foundation to increase its stipend to offset the financial hardships facing low-income students who participate in the internship program.”
