“Building Unity, Health and Wealth”

Civic participation is the greatest freedom afforded in the American Democracy. When a people fail to exercise this freedom, they have no power.

The CBCF encourages civic participation through an interactive, community-based learning experience on voting rights, income security and parental advocacy for child educational achievement. The initiative targets cities with a sizable population of African Americans. District Level Forums provide an opportunity for national and local leaders to converge and discuss important policy issues with community residents.

Supported by the FORD Foundation, DLFs feature:

  • Basic civic participation instruction for adults and emerging leaders seeking to become more knowledgeable about the policy process; and

  • Access to experts who have a deep understanding about civic participation in the areas of income security, parenting and voting rights.
