African Globalism Internship
Mission: The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Inc. (CBCF) was established in 1976 as a non-partisan, non-profit, public policy, research and educational institute. Our mission is to advance the global black community by developing leaders, informing policy, and educating the public. CBCF facilitates the exchange of ideas and information by addressing critical issues affecting communities; and providing leadership development and scholarship opportunities to deal with social, economic and health disparities. Purpose: The CBCF African Globalism Committee (CBCF-AGC) is a multi-faceted Diaspora program that provides financial, social, and political empowerment to create dynamic linkages between African descendants living in the United States, Caribbean, Latin America, and Africa. As the world becomes increasingly intertwined, the African Globalism Committee strives to establish structured opportunities for joint business ventures and technological transfers, educational exchange, and cultural awareness between African Americans, African, and other Afro-descendant populations. The mission of the CBCF-AGC is to reconnect Africans throughout the African Diaspora, including but not limited to the United States, Europe, Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean.
Internship Description: The African Globalism Committee is pleased to be partnering with Wal-Mart to host a part-time AGC Intern for the 2010 academic year. The ideal AGC intern will have strong research and writing skills and a demonstrated commitment to examining the impact of public policy on the African Diaspora. The intern is expected to be a college or graduate-level student and would be required to work a minimum of 15-20 hours per week. Intern responsibilities include: researching and writing memoranda regarding issues affecting the African Diaspora in the United States, developing public policy initiatives, conducting research related to the international African Diaspora, particularly those living in Haiti, and organizing briefings and related forums and events.
Additional Information: The AGC Intern will receive a living stipend of $5,000 per semester. (First Semester: August through December 2010. Second Semester: January through May 2011).
