Prior to receiving the Louis Stokes Health Scholarship, one of the biggest obstacles in my life was finding the means to finance my education at Emory University. As far as my academic goals were concerned, my main focus was to obtain a degree in chemistry and biology, after which I would continue on to medical school to become a physician. With this scholarship, I was able to complete my degree at Emory, graduating Magna Cum Laude, and I am currently working on medical school applications with the intent to attend medical school in the fall of 2011. This scholarship has truly allowed me to continue to pursue my passion and it has brought me one step closer to achieving my ultimate goal of becoming a successful physician. The CBCF Louis Stoke Health Scholarship has benefited me in many ways. It has allowed me to complete my degree at Emory University and has now placed me in a position where I can confidently pursue a career in medicine. This scholarship also provided me with the extra funds I needed to study abroad. As such, worlds of outstanding opportunities were opened up to me as I was able to gain valuable knowledge, research experience, and pertinent life lessons while abroad. This was only possible through the benefit of the Louis Stokes Health Scholarship.
