WASHINGTON – A. Shuanise Washington, president and chief executive officer of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Incorporated (CBCF), today released the following statement in honor of Public Service Recognition Week.

“CBCF honors the many dedicated public servants working in federal, state, county and local governments during Public Service Recognition Week and throughout the year.

“Government employees complete their duties with respect and integrity even under difficult circumstances. Despite gridlock within the federal government, state and local budget cutbacks, pay freezes and furloughs, public servants continue their service to the American people.

“Public servants are integral in fulfilling the Foundation’s mission to develop leaders, inform policy and educate the public. CBCF works closely with federal employees to place interns and fellows in congressional member offices and within federal agencies for hands-on experience with careers in public service. Their guidance and mentoring helps develop our next generation of leaders.

“The Foundation is pleased to join all Americans in honoring the contributions of government employees and thanking them for their commitment and service to our country. We applaud their daily efforts to make our government work efficiently.”
