Statement from the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Commemorates Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s BirthdayWASHINGTON – Let’s celebrate life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by renewing our commitment to service, civic engagement, and to ensuring that all Americans, no matter their creed, color, religious or political beliefs is heard without fear of reproach and has equal access to all of the rights and freedoms afforded to each of us. The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF) honors Dr. King through its daily work on behalf of African-Americans and the Diaspora. For more than three decades, CBCF has devoted itself to promoting legislative and economic access, eliminating disparities in education and healthcare and to developing leaders with keen sensitivity to issues most important to our communities. Although it has been more than 40 years since his death, the rally cry of Dr. King is more relevant now than ever. Our communities are still burdened by joblessness, homelessness, inadequate healthcare and growing poverty rates. The fight is not over. Get active, get engaged, be a voice for equality, justice and tolerance. Rep. Donald M. Payne Elsie L. Scott, Ph.D.
