NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED PASTOR BISHOP NOEL JONES, GOSPEL ARTIST KIM BURRELL TO HIGHLIGHT CBCF PRAYER BREAKFAST

WASHINGTON - The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s (CBCF) Prayer Breakfast which is scheduled on September 22, from 7:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m., at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center will feature Bishop Noel Jones, pastor of the City of Refuge Church in Gardena, Calif., and Stellar Award winning gospel artist Kim Burrell. The annual Prayer Breakfast is a staple of the CBCF Annual Legislative Conference (ALC).

“Bishop Jones’ messages directly correlate with this year’s theme, Inspiring Leaders|Building Generations, as we encourage attendees to reconnect to their communities by leading the charge to better serve those in need.  This can be accomplished through community-based programs and policy development,” said Elsie L. Scott, Ph.D., president and chief executive officer of CBCF

Bishop Jones is nationally well known and respected for his writings and insight. His ministry includes rehabilitative programs, ministries for artists, singles, the deaf, the incarcerated and youth.  A columnist for Gospel Today Magazine, Bishop Jones has also appeared as a panelist on C-SPAN and NPR. In June 1994, Bishop Jones was chosen to lead approximately 1,000 members of Greater Bethany Community church in (South Central) Los Angeles. During his tenure, the membership of the church increased so significantly that in 2003, a new edifice was acquired in Gardena. The new sanctuary, now known as "The City of Refuge", accommodates a growing membership of 17,000 who are in the sanctuary five times a week to be invigorated and transformed by the uniquely powerful preaching from the Bishop.

Joining Bishop Jones at the interdenominational service will be Kim Burrell. The Houston native, daughter of a pastor father and evangelist mother, grew up singing in the Church of God in Christ. Today she is one of the most influential younger singers in gospel and serves as the minister of  Love and Liberty Fellowship Church. Other program participants include Ebenezer AME Church Choir from Ft. Washington Md;  Bishop Darryl Hinds of Christian Faith Fellowship, Milwaukee, Wisc; Rabbi Alysa Stanton, of NC; Imam Talib Shareef of the historic Masjid Muhammad and U.S. Reps.
