	CBCF News is the official newsletter of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Inc. It is published four times a year and is intended to provide an in-depth look at how CBCF is implementing its mission. Also in each edition, various CBC members offer opinions about issues and concerns impacting the country and their districts and detail what steps they as elected representatives are taking to help make a difference.

Remembering Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones

CBCF celebrates the life and legacy of U.S. Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones, who died on Aug. 20, 2008 in Cleveland after representing the 11th Congressional District of Ohio. Rep. Tubbs Jones served on the Foundation’s board of directors and was chairwoman of the board’s nominating committee. She was also a co-chairwoman of CBCF’s annual Mervyn L. Jones Memorial Golf and Tennis Classic, which is named after her late husband. (PDF)

 

CBCF Attends Political Conventions
CBCF hosted networking events at both the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Colorado and Republican National Convention (RNC) in Minnesota in an effort to connect with African Americans involved in the political process. CBCF also sponsored a study of DNC delegates and proceedings in Denver that was led by a professor and supported by four recent participants of the Foundation’s fellowship program. (PDF)

 

Avoice Launches Environmental Justice Exhibit

Avoice: African Americans in Congress (www.avoiceonline.org), CBCF’s award-winning virtual online library, has launched a new digital-archive exhibit showcasing the influence and impact of black lawmakers in the environmental justice movement. The new exhibit features an introduction on the environmental justice movement, a summary of the CBC’s public advocacy on the issue, plus audio recordings, photographs and other digitized documents. Commemorating Historic Influence of Black Lawmakers
CBCF has produced a new, limited-edition publication, “Continuing the Legacy: A Salute to the Congressional Black Caucus of the 110th Congress.” CBCF Board Chairman Kendrick B. Meek of Florida said: “We have prepared ‘Continuing the Legacy’ to capture the impact of having so many members serving in key leadership posts. We proudly offer this keepsake for CBC members, their families and friends, our corporate partners, historians and the public.” (PDF)

CBCF’s 38th Annual Legislative Conference was a dynamic and historic success. The four-day event, held Sept 24-27, 2008, in Washington, had something for everyone. The 42 CBC members once again headlined the weekend, including the Democratic presidential nominee, Sen. Barack Obama. “Hello, CBC!” he said before receiving a Phoenix Award at the Awards Dinner.
