CBC Members, Debate Watch to Headline ALC ‘08 CBCF is planning what may be the largest organized gathering of people watching a presidential debate as part of the 38th Annual Legislative Conference, Sept. 24-27, 2008, in Washington. U.S. Reps. Corrine Brown of Florida and Gregory W. Meeks of New York are the honorary co-chairs of ALC ’08. They helped to choose as the conference theme “Embracing the Promise, Realizing the Vision,” to recognize the CBC’s role in helping to lead the nation forward. (PDF)

A Landmark Celebration CBCF has marked a significant moment in its history: full and outright ownership of its headquarters, joining a select few African-American nonprofit organizations to own their own building in the District of Columbia. CBCF celebrated the acquisition of its building – a 10,000-square-foot facility that includes administrative offices, a conference room and archival space – at the historic residence of the Turkish Ambassador on Embassy Row on April 29, 2008. The 16th Mervyn L. Jones Memorial Golf and Tennis Classic CBCF and the Congressional Black Caucus Spouses hosted the 16th Annual Mervyn L. Jones Memorial Golf and Tennis Classic on June 21-22, 2008, at the Kingsmill Resort and Spa in Williamsburg, Va. More than 300 people – including 19 CBC members, plus corporate sponsors of the event and CBCF – attended. The Classic featured golf and Bid Whist tournaments, a tennis classic, a silent auction, an evening gala and a host of other family friendly activities. (PDF)
Enabling Black Boys to Reach Beyond Their Dreams CBCF and Rep. Danny K. Davis of Illinois on June 19, 2008, released the results of a comprehensive report exploring key factors impacting academic outcomes for African-American males during a forum on Capitol Hill. The report, “Breaking Barriers: Plotting the Path to Academic Success for School-age African-American Males,” focuses on factors in four key areas: personal and emotional, family, social and environmental and school.
