It IS frustrating to see the plight of our people. Some of the problems ARE self-induced, however, please do not think that the new laws "are our friend". Until there is equity in the court system, many of these laws will continue to work against us, similar to Jim Crow Laws of earlier days. Please stop buying into white philosophy and stop believing that more laws equate to safer streets. It does not.

Eradicating laws that work counter to their purpose, creating equity in the courts systems, and eradicating discrimination in hiring, and providing greater access to quality education (K-12 and higher education) will do more to "stomp out crime". More laws has not proven to do that!

Respectfully submitted, but with passion,
Dorothea Macon

Yes, yes and yes! I am a 44 year old black male, and I had to move out of the country just to see this age. I had a long a tiring life dealing with the pitfalls of being my color. I have see this very blog in real life with my own family. We do need to stop the talk and really start getting work done. I will call out name like our beloved brothers playing professional sports that are making millions and millions but, the places where they grew up are falling more and more short of the American black mans dream, To own a home and to be left alone by the police and to be a MAN, if you will. I am thinking if our sports stars thinks about other things like making a business in our neighborhoods to generate money to our towns? Or do they only want to be the selfish light and not a loving light. I am talking about mentoring our young men not to rely on the sports for the possibility to make money, but rather their brains first. I also was a gifted athlete in my younger years, until a black man said to me that if I don't use my brain, I will not survive in this world. I was not even getting what this wise man was saying to me at that time. What can we do beside sit here on this web page an continue to complain. How will we engage our youth with some honest truth and get to them. We all know this will take money and time to get moving. I have not lots of money to offer. I hope we can start to look into this movement because, the Devil has our children right where he wants them, Lost, angry, evil, brainless and outright ignorant. We need to stop letting our youth play video games, the devil feeds it and they eat it. Please , If you really care about this topic, Let us all start to do what we need to do and forget the government because, the government will only pollute the cause to go the wrong direction anyway. We are the teachers, we are the parents. The damn government is not taking the role seriously, and surely never will.

Vivian L. Burns, you are ABSOLUTELY correct. It is time for Black America to take responsibility and quit blaming every problem they have on the white man. The ratio of black-on-black murder is far higher then white-on-black murder. Black America is killing itself, yet refuses to look in the mirror and say "It is my fault".

I believe when we stop accusing others of our faults..become responsible for our actions..only then will we achieve our goals. No one make these young men kill each other..They pull the trigger, they no longer fight or scuffle to settle a disagreement. They Shoot. Why do they shoot? No one has taught them to value life..they want what they see on TV, not knowing"that if a man doesn't work he shouldn't eat".Please don't misunderstand me..I was a cafeteria manager in our public school system for 30 years. The majority of the students in the Free Lunch Program, threw most of their lunch in the garbage. The kids in Paid and Partial Pay ate more of their food.
What am I saying , the sense of "Entitlement" is the downfall of our young men. They must be taught from birth that one must work for a living. We must do something, every day several young men are shot..We should march in the streets about this...not just when a non -Black kill us. We must teach our children to respect themselves and others, the value of life, the fear of God and to educate them..then and only then will we see a change in our communities.
