WASHINGTON — CBCF president and CEO A Shuanise Washington released the following statement congratulating Rep. Cedric L. Richmond’s election as next Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus.

“On behalf of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Incorporated (CBCF) we extend our heartfelt congratulations to Rep. Cedric L. Richmond on being elected as the next Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC).

“Rep. Richmond has been and ardent supporter of the CBCF and served as an honorary co-chair for our 43rd Annual Legislative Conference. The 115th Congress will have the largest CBC in history with 49 members. This means that the people making decisions for all Americans will better reflect the diversity of our nation. We know that his advocacy and leadership will impact the CBC for generations to come.

“The CBCF also congratulates the rest of the newly elected CBC leadership team of Reps. André Carson, 1st Vice Chair; Karen Bass, 2nd Vice Chair; Brenda Lawrence, Secretary; and Gwen Moore, Whip. The CBCF is excited to work with this next generation of leaders to carry out our mission of developing the young, talented future leaders who will follow in their footsteps.

“The CBCF thanks Rep. G. K. Butterfield for his tireless work to champion issues critical to the black community and to all Americans during his years of service as CBC Chair and in the U.S. Congress. We will be forever grateful for his presence and commitment to advancing CBCF’s mission and goals.”
