Kyle M. Sheppard is Philadelphia-born, and Delaware raised where he currently supports organizations including the Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League in its Youth & Education Committee and James H. Gilliam Sr. Fellowship Program. He is a first-year doctoral student with interest in the impact of structural racism on the social determinants of health in education and the role of institutions serving students and their families. He is a graduate of Delaware State University and holds a Master of Education (M. Ed.) in Educational Leadership where he also holds a B.S. in Psychology, having graduated summa cum laude focused in Drug & Alcohol Assessment and Co-Occurring Disorders and minored in Gender Studies, with focus on Violence Prevention. His prior work includes delivering community engagement strategies for entities including the State of Delaware, the City of Wilmington , Children’s Defense Fund: Freedom School, and as Director of Education for the Dover Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. of which he is member. His scope of Community Development Through Community Involvement has nurtured his mission to explore the intersection of examining classrooms as communities and communities as classrooms with emphasis on providing the reparation, restoration and transformation they need in order to thrive equitably.
