WASHINGTON — In a joint statement, Donna Fisher-Lewis, co-interim president and CEO and senior vice president of resource development, along with Paul Dumars, co-interim president and CEO, CFO, and COO of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Inc. (CBCF), released the following statement on the jury decision on the murder of Ahmaud Arbery by Gregory McMichael, Travis McMichael, and William “Roddie” Bryan, Jr.

“The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Inc. is deeply satisfied that the Glynn County, Georgia jury gave justice to Ahmaud Abery and his surviving family as they reached a guilty verdict in the Arbery murder trial today. We grieve collectively with them as they continue to be in our hearts while mourning the loss of their loved one.

Along with the just verdict in the murder of George Floyd, this verdict demonstrates the power and value of collective action and civic engagement. Both achieving justice and enforcing accountability are indeed possible.

Today’s verdict is a continued step in the right direction for ending disparities in consequences within our justice system.  As we press onward, we know that this is only a step and honor the lives lost where justice was not served.  CBCF is completely committed not only to our mission to advance the global Black community by developing leaders, informing policy, and educating the public, but is also steadfast and devoted to the critical work of racial equity and social justice. Our work continues and we must remain committed.”

CBCF is deeply committed to racial equity and social justice through the National Racial Equity Initiative for Social Justice (NREI). To receive updates on CBCF news, research, programs and events, subscribe to receive the e-newsletter and follow @CBCFinc on Twitter and Instagram.
