Discipline: Interdisciplinary
Brandon Atkins is a Congressional Fellow for Representative Hank Johnson Jr., driving legislative strategy on judiciary and defense policy. He holds a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from the Southern University Law Center (SULC). While in law school, he gained invaluable practical experience as a Student Attorney with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), advising clients on intellectual property protection. Additionally, he served as an Adjunct Professor at the Dolores Spikes Honors College on the campus of Southern University and A&M College and is a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated.
His interest in the intersection of federal policy, law and technology was deepened during his time as a Graduate Research Assistant with the Department of Defense (DoD), where he researched the economic impact of military installations within the state of Mississippi. Utilizing this legal and policy foundation, Brandon has since drafted judiciary hearing memos, defense issue briefs and bill analyses that shape the office’s position on various legislation. After the fellowship, Brandon plans to begin his career as counsel on Capitol Hill before transitioning to the private sector to pursue government relations and advocacy roles, focusing on intellectual property and innovation strategy for technology startups, continuing his goal to inspire, motivate, and educate people.
