On Tuesday, August 5th, 2014 The African Energy Association will take its place on the world stage by hosting its inaugural African-US leadership awards dinner at the Willard Hotel in Washington, D.C. and will highlight the over $300 billion dollar opportunity in the African energy sector. This highly anticipated event will commemorate the renowned accomplishments of awardees Representative Gregory W. Meeks, Mr. Benedict Peters, Executive Vice President of Aiteo Group, and Dr. James Mwangi, CEO and Managing Director, Equity Bank Group, who have each been instrumental in tackling Africa’s energy challenges and championing global interfacing within the continent.
African Energy Association Founder and CEO, Pamela Namai notes that “The African Energy Association is positioned to be the most influential, effective, and independent non-profit organization serving as the voice of energy in Africa.”
This event coincides with the Obama Administration’s historic US-Africa Leaders Summit, which will focus on the importance of supplying energy to the growing economies of Africa, creating jobs in the United States and Africa, and fostering economic opportunities for American and African businesses alike. Washington, D.C. will witness the gathering of heads of state from 45 countries throughout Africa; CEOs and executives representing corporations in the energy, finance, and technology sectors; and thought leaders from around the globe who are committed to advancing a progressive bilateral economic agenda.
The Blue Ribbon Host Committee is chaired by Pamela T. Miller, President and CEO of Summit Global Strategies, Ltd.
Renowned Nigerian Minister of Petroleum Resources, Dr. Diezani Alison-Madueke will attend and address the gathering. Deputy Secretary of the United States Department of Energy, Mr. Christopher Smith will also give remarks.
Among the confirmed attendees are several dignitaries, including a cadre of distinguished African Ministers, CEOs of technology, energy and finance companies, and U.S. policy makers.
The invitation-only, black-tie affair will begin with a press conference at 5:00 pm, followed by reception, dinner, and the awards program beginning at 6:30 pm.
