CBCF Applauds Confirmation of Mel Watt to Lead FHFA

A. Shuanise Washington, president and CEO of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Inc. (CBCF) today released the following statement on the Senate confirmation of Rep. Mel Watt as director of FHFA.

“The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF) supports the U.S. Senate confirmation of Rep. Mel Watt (D-NC) for director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA), the government regulator which oversees Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

“I congratulate Rep. Watt on his confirmation as the next Director of the Federal Housing Finance Authority. As a 20-year veteran of the U.S. House of Representatives, Rep. Watt ably served as chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus from 2005-2006 and most recently on CBCF’s board of directors. His invaluable leadership on CBCF’s budget and investment committee supported the expansion of the Foundation’s scholarship, internship and fellowship programs.

“Rep. Watt brings a wealth of knowledge and experience as an advocate working to expand affordable housing. CBCF extends its well wishes to Rep. Watt as he begins his tenure.”
