WASHINGTON— A. Shuanise Washington, president and CEO of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Incorporated (CBCF), released the following statement on the passing of Gwen Ifill, veteran journalist, moderator and managing editor of “Washington Week” on PBS and co-anchor and co-managing editor of “PBS NewsHour.”
“I am saddened to learn of the passing of Gwen Ifill. As one of the first African-American women to preside over a major political show, Ifill helped pave the way for many journalists of color and her name has become synonymous with public affairs television.
“Her reporting was distinguished by her equanimity and diplomatic demeanor and helped her gain prominence in the broadcast industry and the American political system.
“The CBCF remembers Ifill’s remarkable service to the American people. Her steadfast pursuit of the truth and her commitment to fairness led to insightful reporting and analysis of social and political issues. And in her own words “real change comes from the people who make up their minds that if they see something, they will do something.”
“Our thoughts are with Gwen Ifill’s family, her friends, and the colleagues who loved and respected her so deeply.”
