Discipline: Health Policy

Alandrea Harris is a dedicated public servant committed to improving the lives of others through patient care, research, and advocacy. Her passion for maternal and child health led her from Cincinnati, Ohio, to Washington, D.C., where she earned her Master of Public Health in Maternal and Child Health from George Washington University and served as President of the GW Maternal and Child Health Students and Alumni Network. She also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Kentucky, where she mentored STEM students and led HOSA–Future Health Professionals.

Her master’s thesis, What is Preferred? A Scoping Review of Treatment Preferences for Postpartum Depression, explored what women truly want from postpartum depression treatment and developed tools to center their voices in care. She also co-authored research with Emory University’s Cell Biology Department on sympathetic nerve tissue regeneration, advancing understanding of patient recovery.

Beyond research, Alandrea has served on the front lines of care as a Patient Care Technician at Children’s National Hospital and as a volunteer Birth Doula in Northern Virginia, witnessing firsthand the challenges and triumphs of families navigating the healthcare system. These experiences grounded her in the realities of American healthcare while deepening her commitment to health equity.  Together, these experiences—academic, scientific, and personal—have shaped Alandrea into more than a public health professional. They have made her an advocate for equity, a connector of communities, and a champion for change. She believes healthcare must not only treat illness but also listen, empower, and uplift the people it serves. This uniquely positions her to champion solutions to the systemic issues that hinder Black health in America.
