Brittani Collins

Congressional Fellow

Discipline: Oral Health

Brittani Collins is a proud Chicagoan, born and raised in the south suburbs of Chicago, IL. Throughout her journey, Brittani has soared both academically and professionally. She earned two Bachelor degrees from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Bachelor of Art in African American and African Studies. Brittani also holds a Master of Public Health in Community Health Science with special training in Maternal and Child Health (MCH) populations from the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Public Health Center of Excellence in Maternal and Child Health (UIC, SPH, CoE MCH). Brittani is passionate about addressing social justice issues regarding the plight of Black women and children, Black LGBTQIA+ people, and the unhoused populations across the United States. From working for research powerhouses like Northwestern Medicine as a Clinical research coordinator, to working directly with grassroots organizations at the forefront of MCH care, Brittani uniquely couples her love for public health with policy, advocacy, and action for social issues.

During her time as a Clinical Research Coordinator at Northwestern Medicine Fertility and Reproductive Medicine (FRM), she managed over ten studies relating to causes of infertility including genetics and social determinants of health. Brittani specifically managed the PROMISE study, which examined lifestyle factors that can affect women’s success rate with in-vitro insemination (IVF) for first time IVF patients. Additionally, as a graduate student Brittani worked with the Black Midwifery Collective non-profit organization as a communications intern. This role immersed Brittani in legislative advocacy and strategic program development focused on reproductive justice in Illinois. These experiences not only strengthened Brittani’s public speaking and research skills but also gave her invaluable opportunities to witness how policy, health equity, and grassroots leadership intersect to shape reproductive outcomes for affected families. Post-CBCF Fellowship, Brittani aspires to broaden her public health practice to the hospitality and women’s workforce industries to ensure that healthy communities are prioritized and not commodified.
