Designed to Divide is a comprehensive web project that investigates the structural forces behind social exclusion and health disparities in three majority-Black U.S. cities: Detroit, MI; Philadelphia, PA; and Houston, TX. Part 1 examines how disparities in healthcare access, provider availability, and transportation affect health outcomes and mental well-being. Part 2 demonstrates how affordability, transit access, and the spatial availability of third places impact residents’ ability to connect and feel supported.

The Black Policy Playbook
Forward Together: The Black Policy Playbook is a bold and necessary framework for addressing the most pressing challenges facing Black communities in the United States. The Playbook was co-developed by the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation and the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies, and features input from various research, advocacy, and policy organizations that share our commitment to improving the conditions of Black communities. This agenda, which is a testament to the power of collective action and advocacy, offers data-driven, evidence-based policy solutions designed to dismantle systemic barriers and promote racial equity.
