WASHINGTON—A. Shuanise Washington, president and CEO of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF), Inc., released the following statement on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

“Today, as we pause to reflect on the monumental work and life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Inc. (CBCF) remembers his steadfast commitment and sacrifice to unify a divided country.

Now, more than ever, Dr. King’s exemplary life serves as a charge to dedicate our most precious resource – time – to combat the ills of this world while dismantling the burdens of poverty, violence, and racism.

At CBCF, we believe in Dr. King’s work of solving problems through service and building bridges to foster a more just and fair world. Today, and every day, we hope that you will join us as we recommit our lives to public service and community solutions.

Let us remember Dr. King’s words that still ring true today, ‘There comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular, but he must take it because conscience tells him it is right.’ No matter who we are, or where we are, our humanity should always rise above our differences to become compassionate leaders and committed public servants.”
