WASHINGTON—A. Shuanise Washington, the president and chief executive officer of the Congressional Black Caucus, Foundation, Incorporated (CBCF), today released the following statement after Baltimore’s chief prosecutor charged six police officers in the death of Freddie Gray.
“Today’s indictment of six Baltimore police officers in the death of Freddie Gray sends a strong message to a community that is both anguished over the senseless tragedy and suspicious after years of reported police misconduct.
“The charges, including murder and manslaughter, are serious and disturbing. Let us hope that justice is ultimately served.
“Our thoughts are with Freddie Gray’s family and the citizens of Baltimore.”
