FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, D.C. – A. Shuanise Washington, president and CEO of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Incorporated (CBCF), released the following statement on the passing of Muhammad Ali, boxing icon, philanthropist and social activist.
“The CBCF is deeply saddened by the passing of Muhammad Ali, a lifetime humanitarian, whose commitment to long-standing societal problems from racial injustice and lack of religious freedom saw him transcend boxing to galvanize social and political change.”
“A champion for change, Ali used his platform to advocate for the care of those with Parkinson’s and other movement disorders. In 2014, the CBCF was honored to award Ali with the Ralph Metcalf Award for Health, presented to an individual or group who has provided extraordinary contributions to improve the health and wellbeing of African Americans.”
“Ali, who once said, ‘the man who has no imagination has no wings,’ embodied the ideals of sportsmanship, leadership and philanthropy.”
“Our thoughts and heartfelt prayers are with Muhammad Ali’s family and the millions he served and inspired through his life and work.”
